Oxygen Scavenger
A Scavenger is a Chemical Substance added to a Mixture in Order to Remove or Inactivate Impurities or Unwanted Reaction Products . Their use is Wide-Ranged.
Corrosion by Oxygen in the boiler can be Controlled by the addition of an "Oxygen Scavenger" to the Pre-boiler Section of the steam generating system.
- The Most Widely Used Materials in this Application are Sodium Sulfite (NaSO2) and Hydrazine (N3H) , both of Which are Usually Sold as Catalyzed System to Enhance Reactivity with Oxygen at lower Temperatures and Pressures.
- Oxygen Corrosion is an Electrochemical Process Similar to a simple battery. Iron Dissolves at the anode and Releases Electrons Which are Subsequently Consumed.
